Pinelands Adventures Partners with Rowan University
Pinelands Adventures and Rowan University have partnered to provide experiential learning for Rowan students.
Structured Experiential Learning: Pinelands Adventures, at Rowan University (BIOL 01130)
This course provides current and prospective Rowan students with the opportunity to earn college credit by completing experiences with Pinelands Adventures. Participants in this course gain at least 20 hours of practical experience exploring the New Jersey Pinelands under the direction of Pinelands Adventures staff, with learning assessed by faculty at Rowan University, and earn a single (1) college credit hour.
Students will gain first-hand knowledge of the natural and human history of the Pinelands, develop observational skills, experience paddling a canoe or kayak in remote areas of the Pinelands, and learn how the living and nonliving components of the environment combine to form ecosystems. Learning experiences in this course take place outside of the traditional classroom setting and are intended to help participants clarify career plans, values, and enhance future learning.
Participants document their learning by completing learning assessments after each experience and submit a final reflection linking their overall experience to their academic, professional, or personal life. This course is graded as passing or no-credit.
