Help protect Wharton State Forest by participating in this public meeting!Public Meeting: Establishing a Map for Wharton State ForestDate: Wednesday, February 8, 2023Time: 5:30 pm to 8:30 pmOrganizer: New Jersey Department of Environmental ProtectionLocation: Virtual via Microsoft TeamsIMPORTANT: RSVP to let us know you will be participating. (link at bottom of post)The DEP will present the results of its Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey and gather public input during the second in a series of virtual public meetings on the development of a plan for public access while protecting natural resources and ensuring public safety in the state forest. After the presentation of results the public can share their comments. Comments are limited to two minutes per person. DEP will also provide the public with an update on the proposed permit system for accessing some State Park Service-owned roads. Still in the early steps of consideration, a permit system would assist in ensuring users have an adequate understanding of road conditions and vehicle requirements when traveling in remote areas of the state forest.Your input on the creation of an accessible and enforceable State Forest map will encourage public access and protect the most important locations from destructive uses like illegal dumping and illegal off-road vehicles.You can make a difference in how these habitats and historic sites fair in the long term by joining the many supporters of public land and speaking out at the upcoming meeting.
